Dal parcheggio dell’ex ristorante “la Baita”, si prosegue in direzione del Forte
Centrale e, dopo circa 50 m, si svolta a destra.
Dal cartello dell’Alta Via dei Monti Liguri si perde l’asfaltata e si incontra subito
un bivio: si prende ancora la destra.
Si inizia quindi un lungo tratto ombreggiato ed in leggera salita che attraversa
l’incantevole “Faggeta della Barbottina”. Si raggiunge ben presto un bivio
importante: la salita sulla sinistra conduce in un 1 Km alle rovine del “Forte
Merizzo”, la strada in falso piano, invece, prosegue in direzione della “Casa della
Forestale”. Noi consigliamo una visita alle rovine e, successivamente, di prendere
la seconda via per proseguire l’itinerario.
Insieme al Forte Centrale, al Settepani e al Tortagna, la batteria d’appoggio sul
Bric Merizzo, costituiva lo “Sbarramento del Melogno”, un insieme di fortezze
poste in difesa del Nord d’Italia da eventuali attacchi via mare.
Tornati al bivio, si prende quindi la strada sulla destra ignorata in precedenza e si
supera il cancello della forestale.
Dopo oltre 1 Km si raggiunge la “Casetta della Forestale”, un piccolo rifugio sito
in un bel prato e punto d’incrocio di più strade. E' consigliata, da questo punto,
un’altra deviazione continuando sul percorso dell’Alta Via, per una vista
panoramica sul mare ed i colli circostanti dalla zona delle “Rocce chiare”.
Tornati alla Casetta, questa volta si prosegue in direzione Nordest rientrando
nella foresta. Cambia il segnavia (due segni orizzontali gialli).
La via non è ben segnata, ma basterà continuare sulla stessa per non perdersi. Si
ignora una deviazione che sorge subito sulla destra e si prosegue lungo la
sterrata principale che percorre il versante a mare del Bric Merizzo.
Poco oltre il monumento ai caduti eretto nel bosco, sorge un bivio: la via a destra
conduce al Forte Tortagna. Presa la via a sinistra, si sceglie nuovamente la
sinistra al bivio successivo e si continua fino a raggiungere un terzo incrocio. A
quest’ultimo si virerà a destra ritrovando la strada percorsa a senso inverso
all’inizio.
