La nostra partenza avviene da via Principe Amedeo, salendo in diagonale tra le case. La stradina piega a sinistra (segnavia: due X rosse) e passa accanto all'antica chiesa di Sant'Alessandro. Poco più avanti lasceremo l'asfaltata, che attraversa il rio e termina contro il cancello del Castello di Conscente, si prosegue dritti lungo il sentiero segnalato. Si attraversa il rio poco più avanti, su un piccolo ponte, e si sale
ripidamente con brevi svolte tra fasce di uliveti e bosco. Si incontra quindi una bella mulattiera, che si segue in salita per pochi metri giungendo sul filo del ripido costone che scende dalla Rocca Livernà. Lasciamo la mulattiera, che piega a sinistra, si risale direttamente il costone seguendo il segnavia; più in alto si sfiora per l'ultima volta la mulattiera e si continua in ripida salita. Giunti alla base di un
piccolo dirupo, affacciato sulla Val Pennavaire, si gira a sinistra e si inizia a salire con lunghi tornanti. Ad un bivio si gira a destra, effettuando un ulteriore tornante. Superata poi una garitta in pietre a secco, un tratto quasi in piano costeggia un fossato e guida in breve all'entrata della Batteria di Rocca Livernà.
Qui parte l'esplorazione all'interno del forte, che, curiosi o meno, ruba una buona mezz'ora.
Ritorniamo all'entrata del forte, e si riparte sulla destra dando le spalle al portone, un sentiero militare
(indicazione per "punto panoramico"); il sentiero sale con lunghi tornanti nella macchia mediterranea, con tratti ancora ben conservati sorretti da muretti a secco. Dopo l'ultimo tornante, un tratto compreso tra muri a secco permette di entrare nella postazione di fanteria, situata alla base della lama
rocciosa sommitale. Da qui, una breve scalinata in mattoni risale le rocce sovrastanti e porta sull'aerea vetta della Rocca Livernà. La vista sulle montagne circostanti è davvero incantevole. Sui mattoni della
scalinata di accesso sono incisi i nomi di coloro che qui prestarono servizio. Si ritorna indietro fino all'ultimo tornante, da cui si prende a destra un sentiero non segnalato. Il sentiero costeggia i muri della postazione di fanteria, quindi scende brevemente e arriva su una selletta sulla cresta sommitale della rocca. Da qui si prosegue verso ovest, lungo il panoramico crestone roccioso, lungo la traccia che si
tiene a debita distanza dagli strapiombi del versante nord. Man mano che si va avanti il costone si fa più arrotondato; scavalcata una piccola cima coperta di arbusti, si scende ripidamente fino ad una sella dove si incontra la strada sterrata militare per Martinetto. La si segue verso destra e, in breve, si giunge al crocevia della Sella di Arnasco .
La diramazione di sinistra (segnavia: triangolo rosso vuoto) prosegue lungo il crinale in direzione del Monte Nero e del Castell'Ermo. Si continua a destra lungo la strada sterrata militare, priva di segnavia; procedendo in lieve discesa, si effettua un lunghissimo tornante, quindi si taglia tutto il versante nord della Rocca Livernà. Giunti al secondo tornante, si abbandona la sterrata per prendere a destra una mulattiera; in breve si giunge al crocevia di quota 170 già incontrato all'andata. Da qui, seguendo il percorso segnalato effettuato all'andata, si ritorna all'auto.

At the base of a small crag, overlooking the Val Pennavaire, turn left and start climbing in long hairpin bends. At a fork in the road, turn right and make another hairpin bend. After passing a dry-stone barn, an almost flat stretch runs alongside a ditch and leads shortly to the entrance of the Rocca Livernà Battery.
Here begins the exploration of the interior of the fort, which, curious or not, takes a good half hour.

(signposted 'panoramic viewpoint'); the path climbs in long hairpin bends through the Mediterranean scrub, with well-preserved stretches supported by dry stone walls. After the last hairpin bend, a stretch between dry stone walls leads to the infantry post, located at the base of the rocky blade at the top.

The names of those who served here are engraved on the bricks of the access stairway. Go back as far as the last hairpin bend, from where you take an unmarked path to the right. The path runs along the walls of the infantry post, then descends briefly to a saddle on the summit ridge of the rock. From here, continue westwards along the panoramic rocky ridge, along the track that keeps a good distance from the overhangs.
distance from the overhangs on the north side. As you go on, the ridge becomes more rounded; go over a small bushy peak and descend steeply to a saddle where you meet the dirt military road for Martinetto. Follow it to the right and you will soon reach the crossroads of Sella di Arnasco.
The left-hand branch (signpost: empty red triangle) continues along the ridge in the direction of Monte Nero and Castell'Ermo. Continue to the right along the unmarked military dirt road; proceeding slightly downhill, take a very long hairpin bend, then cut across the northern slope of Rocca Livernà. At the second hairpin bend, leave the dirt road to take a mule track on the right; you will soon reach the crossroads at an altitude of 170 metres, as you did on the way up. From here, following the signposted route taken on the outward journey, return to the car.
